We are seeking an experienced and driven heavy machinery operator to join our friendly team at Living Earth.
About the role
Based in Mangere, Auckland, you will be responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of equipment used to transport, turn, mix, shred and screen organic material in the production of compost and growing media.
This key operational role will require someone who is motivated and diligent with the ability to analyse issues critically and optimise outcomes. It is also essential that you are fully committed to Health and Safety, follow prescribed policies and procedures, drive a positive culture and lead by example.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Operation of a variety of mobile equipment including wheel loaders, excavators, forkhoists, tractors and trucks (up to 30t) to move, turn and load bulk materials
- Operation of specialist equipment including trommels screens, low-speed shredders & high-speed grinders, ensuring equipment is clean and operating
- Pre-start inspection, routine maintenance and cleaning of all equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Batching and blending of growing media from bulk and bagged additives following supplied recipes
- Repair and compaction of site surfaces
- General labour duties including shovelling, water blasting, sweeping and pallet repair.
To be successful in this role you will need to have:
- A minimum 3 years’ experience operating excavators and wheel loaders >10 tonne (preferably in a composting or similar industry)
- A full, clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence with W, T & F endorsements (Class 4 licence preferred)
- A reasonable level of physical fitness
- High personal drive and the ability to work autonomously
- A technical and analytical mindset with the ability to learn quickly
- Excellent communication skills and numeracy
- Effective time management skills
- Flexibility to work extended hours, particularly during Spring & Autumn periods
- A willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Full commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality principles and processes
